Cut the Legs

Shape folding legs that swing clean and hold the high end at regulation height—stack-cut or template-cut, just keep them twins.

Step 3: Cut the Legs

Folding legs are what separate “real boards” from “two planks propped on a cooler.”

Length that hits 12“

The back of a regulation board sits 12“ off the ground. Legs swing at an angle, so they need to be longer than 12“—about 15.5“ worked on this build. Cut two matching pairs (four legs total for two boards).

Round the pivot end

Round or chamfer the end that bolts through the frame so the leg can fold flat without binding. This is the little detail that makes you look like you knew what you were doing.

Keep them twins

Stack and cut legs together when you can. No clamps for a stack? Cut one leg first and use it as a physical template—trace it onto the next blanks and cut to the line. Mismatched leg lengths = one board that plays weird and one buddy who won’t shut up about it.
